Girls Soccer at Royal High School has enjoyed marked success, and since the first year of the program in the fall of 1993, the standard has been set high. That first year, under the direction of head coach Greg Reeser, the rookie team qualified for the state tournament - a feat that is extremely rare. 4 years later, in the fall of '97, under head coach Mario Godoy, the girls returned to State due to an astonishing 1-0 defeat of Cashmere, and finished the season 4th in the state. The next year, in the Fall of '98 the girls returned again to the state tournament. Over the 12 year history of the program, the girls have bounced back and forth between the AA and the A leagues depending on WIAA classification and league changes, and have regularly made a showing at the district tournament (7 appearances). In 2003 the girls came close to reaching the state tournament once again. Down a goal with time running out and momentum in their favor, a ball was played thru to league MVP Natalin Jones for an open breakaway with the Oakanogon goalkeeper. Steps short of her game tying shot time was called by the center official, and the season came to a heart wrenching close. The desire to return to the state tournament and improve on the 4th place finish is the goal of every RHS team that steps on the field.

Soccer is the beautiful game that we love. Playing on this team is a privilege, and as a coaching staff we have only 2 requirements: #1 - Work hard every day. We work hard everyday so that when we step onto the field we are ready to represent our school, our community, our families, and ourselves. This work is not only on the pitch, but in the classroom, and in our community. #2 - Take care of each other. We are part of a team that is unified in its support and development of each player on the roster. We push each other, suffer and rejoice together, we defend each other, tutor each other, and watch out for one another. We are family. |
